The process of being mindful with mindfulness is not a psychological process. This has nothing to do with your memory, basically it is a life process or simply put it is an existential process.
You can only be in mindful state when you allow yourself to be just a piece of life that you are, nothing more or nothing less. In mindfulness practice we do many things and one of the most important of all is observing silence, meaning to simply shut up. But shutting your mouth is only half the job done.
If you want to become mindful in life, you have to do one thing that is to stop thinking too much of yourself. When you think ‘you are smart’, how can you become mindful? If your belief says that ‘you are smart’ you can never be mindful. To be mindful you have to bring back the innocence of childhood back in you, you need to realize that you don’t know anything about this existence, just think yourself as actual stupid. When you live life with the curiosity of a child, you could simply look at life with great sense of wonder and without a thought appearing in your mind.
If you think you are smart about everything, you got explanations and calculations and nonsense going on in your head. Then only one thing will happen, a thousand thoughts will go off.
You are not sitting here reading this in total silence. You are agreeing with me, disagreeing with me, making comments within yourself, making comments about the content of this article, understanding it, declining it, everything is happening. Because the moment you think there is some value to what you think then you have no power to stop it, no way to stop it.
It’ll just go on and on and on.
When you come to realise that there is certainly no real value to your thought process; it is just memory recycling itself, it is just the same old thoughts recycling themselves but if you are excited, if you are drawn by this recycle, if you think it’s great, you could never stop it.
If you see the patterns of what it is, if you see the foolishness of what it is, then you can slowly distance yourself. And the second you distance yourself, it will collapse, because without attention it cannot go on.
